Habits are rituals and behaviours that we perform automatically. We have hundreds of daily habits that range from simple everyday tasks such as brushing your teeth or tying a shoelace to habits we make an effort to form such as exercise or good eating habits. But often, bad habits can form; habits that we do without thinking but which don’t benefit us and which can have undesirable consequences. 

The four most common classes of habit that are dealt with in hypnotherapy are nail-biting, hair pulling, stuttering, and nervous tics. However, CBT hypnotherapy can help with almost all habits including nose-picking, itch-scratching, knuckle-cracking, finger-tapping, cigarette-smoking, alcohol-drinking, chocolate-munching, coffee-guzzling, swearing, shouting, apologizing, etc.

HOW CBT HYPNOTHERAPY CAN HELP REVERSE BAD HABITS

Hypnotherapy treatment for habits consists of habit reversal training, installing a counter habit or competing response. In other words, creating a new positive habit that is mutually incompatible with the one you wish to stop. Results are generally very good with a single two-hour session of habit-reversal treatment reinforced with hypnotherapy.

Habits are powerful, but it is precisely because a habit works so forcefully that the treatment of a variety of conditions by installing counter-habits can be so lasting, powerful, and effective.
